Privacy Policy

Last Updated: January 2025

At SparklyNode, we believe understanding how financial statements work shouldn't mean giving up control of your personal information. This privacy policy explains what data we collect when you use our platform, what we do with it, and most importantly, what rights you have regarding your information.

We're based in the Philippines and operate under the Data Privacy Act of 2012. If you have questions while reading this, feel free to reach out. We'd rather answer your questions now than leave you uncertain about how your data is handled.

Information We Collect

Account and Registration Data

When you sign up for SparklyNode courses or programs, we ask for basic information to set up your account. This includes your name, email address, and contact details. If you're enrolling in paid programs, we'll also need billing information.

Learning Activity Information

We track your progress through our financial analysis courses. This means we record which lessons you've completed, quiz scores, assignment submissions, and how long you spend on different modules. We collect this data to help you pick up where you left off and to improve our teaching methods.

Technical Information

Like most websites, we automatically collect certain technical data when you visit. Your IP address, browser type, device information, and how you navigate through our site all fall into this category. We use this information to keep the platform running smoothly and to spot potential security issues.

Data Type Purpose Legal Basis
Contact Information Account management and communication Contract performance
Payment Details Processing course enrollments Contract performance
Learning Analytics Progress tracking and course improvement Legitimate interest
Technical Data Security and platform optimization Legitimate interest

How We Use Your Information

Your data serves several specific purposes. We use it to deliver the educational content you signed up for, which includes sending course materials, tracking your progress, and issuing certificates when you complete programs.

We also analyze learning patterns across all students to figure out which teaching methods work better. For example, if most people struggle with a particular concept in ratio analysis, we might redesign that lesson. This analysis happens at an aggregate level, though we do look at individual progress to provide personalized recommendations.

We send educational emails about course updates, new content releases, and occasional tips related to financial analysis. You can opt out of marketing messages while still receiving essential account notifications.

Payment processing requires us to share necessary information with our payment processors. We don't store full credit card numbers on our servers. That sensitive data goes directly to our payment partners who handle it according to international payment security standards.

Data Sharing and Third Parties

We work with several service providers who help run the platform. Our hosting provider stores the actual data on their servers. We use email service providers to send course notifications and updates. Payment processors handle transactions when you enroll in paid programs.

Each of these partners has access only to the data they need to perform their specific function. They're contractually required to protect your information and can't use it for their own purposes.

When Law Requires Disclosure

We'll disclose your information if required by Philippine law or if we receive a valid legal request from authorities. Before doing so, we'll verify the request is legitimate and will only share what's specifically required.

If SparklyNode is ever acquired or merges with another company, your data would transfer to the new entity. We'd notify you before this happens and explain any changes to how your information is handled.

Your Privacy Rights

Under Philippine data privacy law, you have several rights regarding your personal information. Here's what you can do and how to exercise these rights:

Access Your Data

You can request a copy of all personal information we hold about you. We'll provide this in a readable format within 30 days.

Correct Inaccuracies

If any of your information is wrong or outdated, you can update it through your account settings or contact us directly.

Delete Your Account

You can request deletion of your account and associated data. We'll remove everything except what we're legally required to retain.

Export Your Information

Request a portable copy of your data that you can transfer to another service. This includes your profile and learning progress.

Restrict Processing

You can ask us to limit how we use your data while we investigate a concern you've raised about accuracy or processing.

Object to Processing

You can object to certain types of data processing, particularly for marketing purposes or when based on legitimate interest.

To exercise any of these rights, send an email to info@sparklynode.com with your request. We'll verify your identity and respond within 15 business days. There's no fee unless your request is clearly excessive or repetitive.

Data Security Measures

We protect your information through several layers of security. All data transmitted between your browser and our servers is encrypted using industry-standard SSL/TLS protocols. This means anyone intercepting the data would see only scrambled, unreadable information.

Our databases are protected by firewalls and access controls. Only specific team members who need access to perform their jobs can view user data, and all access is logged. We conduct regular security audits and keep our systems updated with the latest security patches.

Despite our precautions, no system is completely secure. If we ever experience a data breach affecting your information, we'll notify you within 72 hours and explain what happened, what data was affected, and what steps we're taking.

You play a role in security too. Choose a strong, unique password for your SparklyNode account. Don't share your login credentials. If you suspect someone has accessed your account without permission, change your password immediately and let us know.

Data Retention and Deletion

We don't keep your data forever. Different types of information have different retention periods based on their purpose and legal requirements:

Active Accounts

We retain your account data and learning history as long as your account remains active. This allows you to access your progress and completed courses at any time.

Inactive Accounts

If you don't log in for 3 years, we'll send reminders before archiving your account. Archived accounts can be reactivated within another year before permanent deletion.

Financial Records

Philippine law requires us to keep transaction records and invoices for 7 years. This applies even if you delete your account.

Marketing Data

If you opt out of marketing emails, we keep a record of your opt-out preference indefinitely to ensure we don't contact you again.

Technical Logs

Server logs and security records are automatically deleted after 90 days unless they're part of an ongoing security investigation.

When we delete data, it's removed from our active systems and backups within 30 days. Some residual copies might exist in backup archives for up to 90 days but are inaccessible for regular operations.

Cookies and Tracking

SparklyNode uses cookies and similar technologies to make the platform work properly and to understand how people use it. Here's what we use and why:

Essential Cookies

These are necessary for basic functions like keeping you logged in, remembering your language preference, and maintaining security. You can't disable these without breaking core functionality.

Analytics Cookies

We use analytics tools to understand which courses are popular, where students get stuck, and how people navigate the platform. This helps us improve the learning experience. You can opt out of these through your account settings.

Performance Cookies

These help us monitor site speed and identify technical issues. They collect information about loading times and errors but don't identify you personally.

Most browsers let you control cookies through their settings. Keep in mind that blocking all cookies will prevent you from logging in or using many features of the platform.

International Data Transfers

Our primary servers are located in the Philippines, but some of our service providers operate from other countries. This means your data might be processed or stored outside the Philippines.

When we transfer data internationally, we ensure the receiving country has adequate data protection laws or we put contractual safeguards in place. These contracts require our partners to protect your information according to standards similar to Philippine data privacy requirements.

You have the right to ask about specific data transfers and the safeguards we use. Contact us if you want details about where your particular data is stored or processed.

Children's Privacy

SparklyNode courses are designed for adults interested in financial analysis skills. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18 years old. Our terms of service require users to be at least 18.

If we discover that we've accidentally collected data from someone under 18, we'll delete it immediately. If you're a parent and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us right away.

Changes to This Policy

We update this privacy policy occasionally to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. When we make significant changes, we'll notify you by email and display a prominent notice on the platform.

The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page shows when we most recently revised the policy. We encourage you to review it periodically. Continuing to use SparklyNode after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.

For major changes that affect how we use your data, we'll ask for your explicit consent before applying the new practices to information we've already collected.

Philippine Data Privacy Compliance

SparklyNode complies with the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173) and its implementing rules. We're registered with the National Privacy Commission as required for entities processing personal data of Philippine residents.

If you're not satisfied with how we've handled your data or responded to your privacy rights request, you have the right to file a complaint with the National Privacy Commission. You can reach them at:

  • Website: privacy.gov.ph
  • Email: info@privacy.gov.ph
  • Address: 5th Floor, Philippines Postal Corporation Building, Liwasang Bonifacio, Manila 1000

We take all complaints seriously and will work with you and the NPC to resolve any concerns about our data practices.
